Aucuba japonica Shugetsu Perennial Plant of the Year 900' elevation in KumaonAucuba japonica 'Shugetsu' (translated as 'New Year') is one of the most unusual Japanese aucuba selections we've grown. Almost certainly a tetraploid, Aucuba 'Shugetsu' shares many traits with tet daylilies abnormally thick stems and foliage. The tree trunk like stalk supports a 6' tall, vase shape plant that's narrow at the base and widens slightly toward the tip. The 9" long evergreen leaves are very dark green with a wide golden central pattern
