Gilbert Jr. ASN 34771068 enlisted in the Army on March 27th, 1943. On October 23rd, 1943 he graduated the Sixty Sixth Infantry Division Ranger School at Camp Joseph T. Robinson in Arkansas. Following this he went to Parachute School (Class III) at Fort Benning, Georgia in 1944. After completion of Parachute training he was assigned to the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, and later the 507th PIR
